What is Isoptin SR (Verapamil SR) used for?
Isoptin SR is a calcium channel blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure. It works by blocking calcium ions influx in the smooth muscle of arteries. This relaxes the blood vessels and reduces the pressure in the arteries.
This allows blood to flow more easily through the blood vessels. Isoptin SR also works on the heart muscle and reduces heart rate. It is often recommended when beta blockers are an unacceptable health risk.
Isoptin SR (Verapamil SR) Information
Isoptin SR is taken orally, with food, as directed by your doctor. It is often used twice a day to keep a consistent level of medication in your system. Do not crew, crush or split the tablets as the medicine is released over time. Releasing the contents entirely can result in an increased risk of side effects and an inconsistent level of the drug in your system.
Your dose is based on your condition and history of treatment. If you miss a dose, you can take it when you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, simply skip the missed dose and continue with your schedule. Do not take an extra dose as exceeding the recommended dose can lead to an adverse reaction. An overdose can disrupt the heart rhythm and can lead to heart failure.
This works best when taken consistently every day. Do not stop treatment once you feel better. High blood pressure does not have an overt feeling of sickness and your condition may grow worse if left untreated. It takes about a week to receive the maximum benefit of the drug.
Isoptin SR has known side effects. This is not a complete list and includes frequently reported adverse events. If you experience any signs and symptoms of serious side effects when taking Isoptin SR, talk to your doctor or seek emergency care.
Report side effects to your doctor. If you find them unmanageable call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. We also have a pharmacist that can provide counselling when you buy Isoptin SR online.
