What is Iopidine?
Iopidine eye drops is an ophthalmic solution used to treat high pressure in the eye that can occur after laser surgery. High pressure inside the eye can lead to decreased vision or even blindness. This medicine helps to regulate the amount of fluid in the eye. It is often prescribed short term until the concerns of eye damage are resolved.

Your doctor will likely apply your first few doses before and after laser eye surgery. For normal treatment, the usual dose is three drops a day to the affected eye unless directed otherwise by your doctor.
Always wash your hands with soap and water before applying your dose. Do not touch the dropper with your fingers or allow it to touch surfaces to prevent contamination. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before instilling the eye drops.
Wait a minimum of 15 minutes before putting them back. Soft contact lenses may absorb the medication if they are worn during treatment or replaced too early.
Always follow the directions provided by your doctor and the manufacturer for proper use. The directions will usually recommend tilting your head back and pulling your lower eyelid down to form a puch. Position the dropper over the affected eye and instill one drop into the pouch. If you need to take another eye drop, wait at least 5 minutes before using a different product.
You can release the eyelid and close your eyes. Use your finger to apply gentle pressure on the corner of the eye (the corner that is closest to your nose). Hold for up to two minutes. This prevents the medicine from leaking out.
Try not to blink or rub the eye until the two minute wait is completed. Use a tissue to clear any leftover medication from your eye.
How Iopidine works
While the exact mechanism of action is not currently known. It is thought that it relieves pressure by allowing liquids to pass through the eye. Liquids flow in and out of your eye as part of their normal function.
Pressure increases when water remains in the eye. Removing water from the eye prevents harmful effects.
