What is Trimetazidine used for?
The active ingredient in Vastarel is Trimetazidine. Trimetazidine is an anti-ischemic drug and antianginal agent used to treat patients with stable angina, coronary artery disease and reduce chest pain. It may be used to treat patients with chronic heart disease or heart failure.
It relaxes the blood vessels. The mechanism of action is to widen the vessels and improve the flow of blood to the heart. This reduces the frequency of angina attacks. Trimetazidine is different from other antianginal drugs used to treat angina because it does not have any haemodynamic effect and therefore does not affect blood pressure.
Trimetazidine can also be used to treat symptoms of tinnitus and vertigo. This can significantly improve the patient's quality of life as these conditions can disrupt daily activities.
Possible common side effects of Vastarel are dizziness, headache, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
