What is Denavir used for?
Denavir (penciclovir) cream is an antiviral drug used to treat cold sores (Herpes simplex labialis). Denavir is for topical use only. It should be applied every 2 hours during waking hours as soon as the cold sore appears on the lips and face.
Wash your hands before and after applying the cream. Store at room temperature away from children and animals when not in use. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding to determine if there are harmful reaction for babies.
Provide your doctor with a complete list of your current prescription drugs to check for drug interaction, allergic reaction and other adverse effects. If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your schedule.
Some side effects for Denavir are numbness or tingling where the medicine was applied, headache, tingling, redness, itching and changes in the sense of taste. Report side effects to your doctor if you find them manageable. Seek immediate medical attention if side effects are serious.
