What is Cephalexin used for?
Cephalexin is used to treat various infections such as ear infection, strep throat, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections and skin infections. This will not treat viral infections, common cold or the flu. It is classified as a cephalosporin antibiotic. Keflex is the brand name for Cephalexin. They both work in the same way to treat infections. Cephalexin is only available by prescription and should only be taken for the period specified by your doctor. You may need divided doses over a period of 14 days to treat more severe infections.
Taking more than the recommended dose will not provide you with any benefit and can increase your risk of drug interactions. Store at room temperature away from children and pets when not in use. Common side effects of cephalexin are indigestion, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea. If more serious side effects occur such as severe stomach pain, unusual bleeding or seizure among others, Call your doctor immediately.
