What is Zomig Nasal Spray used for?
Zomig nasal spray (zolmitriptan) is used for the treatment of migraines. It can help relieve pain, headaches, sensitivity to light/sound, nausea, and vomiting among other migraine symptoms. Prompt treatment with Zomig nasal spray helps you to return to your normal routine and can decrease your need for other pain medications. Zomig nasal spray belongs to a class of medications called triptans. It effects serotonin (a natural substance) that causes the blood vessels in the brain to narrow. It can also relieve pain by affecting certain nerves within the brain. Zomig nasal spray doesn’t prevent future migraines or decrease the frequency with which you get migraine attacks.

How to Use Zomig Nasal Spray?
Read your prescription label and follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Ensure you read through the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with your medication every time you get a refill.
Use Zomig nasal spray at the first sign of a migraine as instructed by your doctor, generally you will spray once into each nostril. Do not spray into your eyes. Gently blow your nose prior to using this medication. Remove the protective cap and block one nostril by pressing the side of your nose. Then place the tip of the Zomig nasal spray into the other nostril, breathing in while your depress the plunger.
Keep you head tilted slightly back, remove the tip, and gently breathe through your mouth for about 10 seconds. Your nose may feel wet inside and you might notice a faint taste after use of the spray. This is expected. If there’s no improvement in your migraine symptoms do not take an additional dose before talking with your doctor. If your symptoms are partially relieved or if the headache comes back, you can use another dose a minimum of two hours after the first dose. Do not exceed 10mg in a 24-hour period.
Your dosage will be based on your response to treatment, medical condition, and other drugs you’re taking. Tell your doctor if you have to use this medication for migraines over 10 times per month or if your migraines get worse.
