What is Stalevo used for?
Stalevo (Entacapone, Levodopa, Carbidopa) is a combination medication that is prescribed to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. One ingredient, Levodopa converts into dopamine within the brain, which helps control movement. Carbidopa and entacapone help improve the absorption of Levodopa within the brain and not the bloodstream. Carbidopa can also aid in the reduction of certain side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

How to Use Stalevo?
Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or split the tablet. Taking Stalevo with food may help to reduce symptoms of nausea.
Try to avoid a high-protein diet while taking this medication unless told otherwise by your health care professional. Also avoid taking Stalevo with large, high-fat meals since this can delay the amount of time it takes to begin working.
Try to avoid taking Stalevo around the same time as any Iron supplement. Iron can cause less Stalevo being absorbed by the body. Use Stalevo consistently to get the best benefit. Take Stalevo at the same times each day. Some patients may experience an increase in symptoms before they take their next dose. Sudden brief periods of stiffness may occur.
If these symptoms occur, contact your health care professional for dose adjustments that may lessen these effects. Do not stop taking Stalevo without speaking with your health care professional. Tell your physician if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.
