What is Remeron used for?
Remeron contains the active ingredient mirtazapine. It is a prescription drug used to treat major depressive disorder (depression). It belongs to the piperazino-azepine group of compounds.
This may be risky for individuals with Bipolar disorder as It may lead to worsening symptoms. If you are a young adult up to 24 years of age, you may experience unexpected mood changes including thoughts of suicide. Talk to your doctor if this medication makes these conditions worse.
Common side effects of mirtazapine are drowsiness, strange dreams, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite, nausea, vomiting and weight gain. Inform your doctor about your current drugs to avoid an allergic reaction or drug interaction.
Do not stop taking mirtazapine abruptly. It should be reduced gradually over several weeks to reduce withdrawal symptoms. Patients should be monitored by their doctor when tapering or stopping mirtazapine.
This can cause low blood pressure. This may make heart problems worse. Call your doctor or pharmacist for medical advice if you experience serious adverse effects such as trouble breathing.
