What is Pristiq?
Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) is serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) medication used to treat major depressive disorder. It works to help regulate the chemicals in the brain that affect mood. It may be used to treat other conditions. Your doctor or pharmacist should let you know it is meant to benefit you. How to use Pristiq?
Before you start taking Pristiq, and after every refill, carefully read and understand the medication guide and box warnings provided with the product. Pristiq tablets are taken orally as often as directed. It may be taken with or without food. Your dose is based on your medical condition and history treatment.
Swallow the tablets whole. No not crush, chew, split or dissolve the tablets. This can increase your risk of experiencing side effects as the medicine is supposed to release over time instead of all at once. It may be splitable if the tablet is scored. Inform your doctor if you cannot swallow the tablets.
Do not stop taking pristiq once you feel worse. Your symptoms can come back and may be more severe if treatment is stopped suddenly. If you need to stop taking Pristiq, you will need to reduce your dose gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
Inform your doctor if you are taking blood thinners as Pristiq can increase your risk of bleeding.
