What is Pradaxa used for?
Pradaxa is used to prevent blood clots if you have or have had conditions such as stroke, atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Pradaxa can also be used after some surgeries such as hip replacement surgery to prevent blood clots from forming. Pradaxa works by interfering with the clotting pathway in the blood by blocking thrombin (a clotting protein). By interfering with the clotting process, Pradaxa helps to keep the blood flowing more smoothly.
