What is Onglyza (Saxagliptin Hydrochloride) used for?

Onglyza (saxagliptin) is used in combination with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in those with type 2 diabetes. You can control high blood sugar to help prevent blindness, kidney damage, sexual function problems, loss of limbs, nerve problems. Controling diabetes can also lessen your risk of a stroke or heart attack. Saxagliptin works by increasing the levels of incretins, a natural substance in your body that increases insulin release to help control blood sugar, especially after a meal.
