What is Ivermectin (Stromectol) used for?
Ivermectin is classified as an anthelmintic agent. It is used to treat various infections of the intestinal tract caused by parasites. Ivermectin paralyses and kills parasites by destroying their cells.
Oral ivermectin is taken by mouth, on an empty stomach, with a full glass of water at least an hour before a meal. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant before taking this. The amount of medication that is transmitted through breast milk while breast feeding should be minimal and should not cause adverse effects to the baby.
Some side effects of Ivermectin are constipation, vomiting, nausea, swollen lymph nodes and dizziness. Call your doctor for medical advice if side effects become unmanageable. Provide your doctor with a list of your other prescription drugs to check for drug interaction, allergic reaction and other adverse reactions.
