Before ingesting Elmiron (pentosan polysulfate sodium), you must let your pharmacist or doctor if you have any allergy to molecular weight heparin or heparin or any other kind of allergies that you might have.

When you buy elmiron, you must read about the precautions online. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist for all details. Before taking this medication, you must let your pharmacist or doctor regarding your medical history especially related to intestinal disorders, stomach disorders, liver diseases, blood order disorder, and hemophilia.

Before going for surgery, let the dentist or doctor know that you are on this medication. Pregnant woman, this medication needs to be used only when it is needed clearly. Talk about the risks related to it along with the benefits with it with the doctor.

Your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor or pharmacist first. This drug should not be used with the following medication because very serious interactions may occur: mifepristone. Before using Elmiron, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: “blood thinners” (e.g., warfarin, heparin, tenecteplase, abciximab, clopidogrel, ticlopidine), sulfinpyrazone.

Check all prescription and nonprescription medicine labels carefully since many contain pain relievers/fever reducers (NSAIDs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, ketorolac) that may increase your risk for side effects if taken together with this medication. Low-dose aspirin should be continued if prescribed by your doctor for specific medical reasons such as heart attack or stroke prevention (usually at dosages of 81-325 milligrams per day). Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.
