    What is Diovan (Valsartan)?

Valsartan (Diovan) (angiotensin receptor blocker or ARB) is an ACE inhibitor used to manage heart failure and high blood pressure (hypertension). It lowers blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels. This works by making blood flow more easily through the body. It reduces the risk of death after heart attack and blood failure. High blood pressure can lead to damaged blood vessels in other parts of the body, resulting in kidney failure or stroke. This can be prescribed in combination with a diuretic (water pill).

    How to use Diovan (Valsartan)?

When discussing Diovan, your doctor will likely explain how to use Valsartan and consult you on it’s side effects. The manufacturer also provides a patient information leaflet for reference.

Your dose is determined by your condition and response to treatment. It is generally taken once or twice a day with or without food. It can take two to four weeks to see results and control high blood pressure.

Keep taking this even if you feel better. Symptoms can return if this is not taken consistently every day. If you have vomiting, diarrhea or low blood pressure while taking Valsartan, talk to your doctor.
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, do not take Valsartan. It can harm the unborn baby.

Do not share this medication with others even if they have similar symptoms. This may not be an appropriate treatment and can result in adverse reactions. This can be used by children to treat high blood pressure.
