What is Diovan HCT used for?
Diovan HCT is a combination of two active ingredients valsartan (angiotensin receptor blocker) and hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic). They are used in combination to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in persons whose blood pressure was one controlled with one of these drugs. This works to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels making it easier for the blood to flow through. Hydrochlorothiazide works to lower blood pressure by helping your body to get rid of more salt (sodium) and water.

How to Use Diovan HCT?

This is usually taken once daily. It is best to take it at the same time each day. Your doctor will decide the best dose for you.
Diovan HCT can cause some persons to urinate more frequently so it should not be taken close to bedtime. Allow at least 4 hours between taking Diovan HCT and going to sleep. Continue to take this even if you do not feel ill as many persons with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
Check your blood pressure regularly during treatment. This will help you to know how well it is working to control your blood pressure. Your doctor may need to monitor your renal function periodically to ensure this does not cause kidney problems or liver disease.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. Your doctor needs to determine if this medication may harm an unborn baby. Provide your doctor with a list of your medications before taking your first dose. This may interact with muscle relaxants, potassium supplements or salt substitutes and nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs.
