This medication is used in the treatment of a certain kind of acne. It helps decrease the number of acne pimples. Clindamycin stops the growth of acne-causing bacteria, it is an antibiotic. Benzoyl peroxide can halt the growth of bacteria as well as reduce the production of oil into the skin and helps keep your pores open.
Wash the affected skin with a gentle non-medicinal cleanser, rinse with warm water, and dry. Apply a thin layer of this medication to the affected area of the skin as your doctor advises. Avoid areas of broken skin and your eyes, mouth, and inside of your nose. Do not adjust how often you take this medication without consulting your doctor. It can take up to 6 weeks for your acne to start decreasing and 12 weeks to see the full effect.
Skin peeling, itching, burning, dry skin, or redness may occur, if these persist or worsen tell your pharmacist or doctor promptly. You can use moisturizing creams and lotions to help reduce many of the above side effects. Your doctor has judged that the benefits of this medication are greater to you than the risks. Most people who take clindoxyl do not experience serious side effects.
This medication can rarely be absorbed into the bloodstream and cause a severe intestinal condition due to resistant bacteria. This condition can occur weeks after treatment has stopped. If you have the following symptoms do not use anti-diarrhea or opioid medications as these products may make them worse: abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, persistent diarrhea, mucus/blood in your stool.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare, however seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms: swelling/itching, rash, trouble breathing or severe dizziness.
Tell your doctor about any and all allergies before taking this medication. It can contain inactive ingredients which can lead to allergic reactions or other problems. If you have certain medical conditions this medication should not be used. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: intestinal disorders.
This medication can increase sensitivity to the sun so limit your time in the sun and avoid sun lamps/tanning booths. If you get sunburn or have skin redness/blisters talk to your doctor. Avoid contact with clothing and hair. This medication should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed. Consult your doctor regarding breast-feeding, this drug may pass into breast milk and could affect a nursing child.
Interactions with other drugs can change how your medication works or increase risk of side effects. This is not a complete list of drug interactions. Share a list of all products you use with your pharmacist and doctor. Other acne medications used on the skin may interfere with this drug.
If swallowed this medication can be harmful. If someone has symptoms such as: trouble breathing, passing out, call 911 or poison control immediately. Canadian residents can call a provincial poison control centre, US residents can call their local poison control at 1-800-222-1222.
This medication should not be shared with others even though they exhibit the same symptoms as you.
If you forget a dose use it when you next remember. If it is close to the time of your next dose skip your missed dose and use the next one at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
This medication has different strengths and brands that may have different storage requirements. Read the labelling on the package or ask your pharmacist for storage requirements. Keep this medication out of moisture and light. Keep the container sealed tightly and do not store it in the bathroom.
This drug is good for a limited time after you receive it, once the medication is expired discard of any that remains. Keep medications away from pets and children. Do not discard of this medication in any way except for as directed by a pharmacist or waste removal company.
