What is Azelastine Nasal Spray used for?
Astelin is a nasal spray containing the active ingredient azelastine which is an antihistamine. It works by blocking histamine H1-receptors in isolated tissues. It is used nasally to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies such as sneezing, runny and stuffy nose and year round allergic rhinitis.
It can be used in adults and children 5 years and older to manage allergy symptoms. The usual dose for individuals 12 years of age or older, is 2 sprays per nostril twice a day. Carefully read and understand the patient information prided with the product.
Some side effects of Azelastine Nasal Spray are bitter taste in the mouth, nasal irritation, dry mouth, headache, dizziness and nosebleeds. Do not drink alcohol or take other medicines that cause drowsiness while using Astelin as Astelin can cause some persons to feel sleepy.
