    What is Altace HCT?

Altace is prescribed to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure can reduce your risk of experiencing conditions such as kidney problems, congestive heart failure and stroke. This is a combination of ramipril and hydrochlorothiazide. These medicines work better when combined than when used alone.

    Altace HCT Information

What is the dosage of Altace HCT?

Your daily dose will depend on your medical condition and response to treatment. The usual dose is one tablet taken orally once a day. It is best to take this at least 4 hours before you plan to sleep as the medication contains a diuretic that increases your need to urinate. It’s best to take it in the morning, if possible.

Do not crush, chew or dissolve the tablets in liquids. This will change how the medicine is absorbed by the body and will affect how well it works. talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you find you cannot swallow the tablets whole.

This works best when it is used consistently every day. Do not stop treatment once you feel better as high blood pressure is not associated with any overt “sickness” feelings. It may take a few weeks of proper treatment to see the full benefit. Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve or if your symptoms grow worse.

    How Altace HCT works?

Altace is a combination of two drugs. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (or water pill) that increases how much urine your body creates which removes extra salt and water from your body. This relaxes your blood vessels and allows blood to flow more easily.

Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that also helps relax the blood vessels. These are used together when one medicine is not enough to manage hypertension. You may have already used a different medication that did not yield the expected results.
