What is Alinia used for?

Alinia (nitazoxanide) is an antiprotozoal medication that is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by protozoa. Protozoa are single-cell parasites which live in damp places such as streams, lakes, and soil.

Alinia is used primarily to treat diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium or Giardia. These conditions are colloquially called “Traveler’s diarrhea.” Alinia is used by adults and children older than 1.
