    What is Bactrim used for?

    Bactrim DS Is available in two strengths 400mg/80mg and 800mg/160mg. DS refers to Double Strength (800mg/160mg). Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim are antibiotics which work together to treat various bacterial infections. Bactrim is used to treat urinary, ear, respiratory and intestinal infections. It is also used to treat and prevent pneumocystis pneumonia. Sulfatrim should not be used to treat viral infections. It can be used to treat urinary tract infections in patients over 2 months of age.

    How to use Bactrim?

    Bactrim should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is available in tablet and liquid form for oral use and it is also available for intravenous use.     Sulfatrim can cause a rare condition called clostridium difficile diarrhea which is caused by a resistant bacteria. This can occur during treatment or even months after treatment has stopped. Your doctor should be informed immediately if you experience persistent diarrhea, blood or mucus in stool and abdominal pain or cramping.
